With an interest in sustainability and energy-efficient strategies, Mesik’s proven skill and leadership abilities have propelled him within the firm, where he works with technical diligence, professional integrity, and leadership through example. He is known for tactfully handling tough situations, and he works for the best interest of the general public and his clients. Mesik mentors less experienced engineers and works collaboratively with the firm’s various departments to create some of the most innovative and beautiful buildings. In addition to performing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems designs, Mesik is active on the firm’s environmental stewardship committee. He has earned several awards from ASHRAE, and has applied his knowledge to Holabird & Root projects including U.S. Green Building Council LEED Platinum Beloit (Wis.) College’s Science Center and the LEED Gold Village of Oak Park’s (Ill.) Public Works Facility. With strong communication skills, Mesik makes his work clear to staff and clients alike, and he speaks at conferences and in-house presentations. Beyond engineering, Mesik supports and promotes the game of rugby, and coaches the program at his alma mater, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He is starting a nonprofit branch of the UIC rugby alumni group to provide scholarships for student players. Mesik also enjoys spending time with his family and friends, working with his dog for agility trials, and brewing beer at home.
