Mark Montgomery, PE, 36
Associate Principal, ccrd partners, Greenwood Village, Colo.
Kansas State University, BS Architectural Engineering
It’s clear that ccrd partners considers Montgomery as an irreplaceable employee. After eight years at the firm, he informed his boss that he had to move to Colorado because of personal circumstances, and that he would have to leave ccrd. The principals at ccrd quickly decided that instead of losing a dedicated and skilled engineer to another firm, they would open a new branch in Denver and appoint Montgomery as office manager. Four years later, Montgomery leads a team of seven engineers and is head of the electrical engineering department. He won the 2006 ccrd Engineer of the Year award and is highly respected by colleagues at all three branch offices where he’s worked. Montgomery augments his technical skill with outstanding people skills and the uncanny ability to make each client feel like it is his only client, even though he always has multiple projects on his plate. His clients know that whether he is designing a large $120 million bed tower expansion or a small $500,000 interior hospital renovation, he will ensure that each detail in the design is satisfactory. His design for the $167 million, 15-story Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Critical Care Hospital won the 2010 Grand Award from ACEC. Montgomery has also contributed to the industry through presentations about healthcare facilities, including a speech at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Green Conference and the 2011 ASHE Planning, Design & Construction Conference. Montgomery enjoys giving back to the community as a volunteer for his church youth group mentoring program. He is a firm believer in the “pay it forward” mentality. Outside of work, he fosters his creative side playing acoustic and electric guitar, and has joined a few small garage bands to play everything from folk to rock music. He and his family love camping, hiking, fishing, and skiing together.
