Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, Lindsey Fimek’s passion for math and art directed her to develop a career in lighting design. Fimek’s abstract approach in combining architecture and lighting design can be seen in a number of different projects that she has worked on throughout her time at Primera Engineers Ltd. She specializes in developing lighting renderings, and coordinating lighting details and lighting controls—all while meeting energy code requirements in energy-efficient lighting design. Fimek realized she wanted to be a part of the Chicago market after she completed an internship at Shuler Shook, a theater consultant and architectural lighting design company. She fell in love with the work and, after a few years, chose Primera as her hub for her future in electrical engineering. At Primera, Fimek has done it all, from designing to project management and authoring a business plan to add lighting design as a specialty service to the business. Based on Fimek’s plan, she was promoted to lighting studio manager where she currently works on a variety of projects such as interiors and exteriors of commercial buildings, health care clinics, parks, museums, and schools. In a recent project, Fimek was able to showcase her ingenuity by complementing North Park University’s unique architecture with her creative lighting design to give the structure an innovative, modern, and energy-efficient solution. Along with her passion for art, design, and lighting, Fimek is also a seasoned photographer and has taken up graphic design as a hobby to improve her work both in and out of the office. A dedicated family traveler, Fimek hopes to bring her 8-month-old son along on a spring trip to South Korea where they’ll be visiting a family member who teaches English there.
