Weekly merger, acquisition, deal update: November 9

This week Morrissey Goodale tracked three domestic deals and four international transactions. This brings the total year-to-date deal count in the United States to 155, down slightly from the 157 domestic deals tracked through the same period in 2011. Including the U.S., the total global deal count is now 276, down 7% from the 298 global deals tracked through the same period last year.

Engineering, construction, technical and management services firm Parsons (Pasadena, CA) signed an agreement to acquire CT MAIN Engenheiros (Sao Paulo, Brazil), a leading project management and engineering services firm to the energy and infrastructure markets in Brazil. In the past, CT MAIN Engenheiros has typically focused its services on the power systems, thermoelectric power generation, pipelines, oil and gas, industry and telecommunications markets. Link to details

Planning, urban design, architecture and interior design firm Mithun (Seattle, WA) merged with fellow planning, urban design, architecture and interior design firm Daniel Solomon Design Partners (DSDP) (San Francisco, CA). The merger will immediately elevate the combined firm's capabilities in the design for urban residential, mixed use, office, civic, cultural, academic and institutional clients to meet the demand for New Urbanism and livable, sustainable cities. DSDP is perhaps best known for its work in urban neighborhood design and urban housing and features a distinguished residential portfolio that includes student housing, market rate housing, the re-planning and reconstruction of public housing, and affordable housing for a range of special-needs populations. DSDP is merging into the existing Mithun San Francisco office and will operate as Mithun/Solomon moving forward.  Link to details

International infrastructure services consultancy Cardno Limited (Brisbane, Australia) acquired Hard & Forester (Sydney, Australia), a 50-person surveying firm with a client base that includes major civil contractors, councils, the state road authority, the rail authority and various resource companies. The acquisition is meant to further strengthen Cardno's presence in New South Wales and broaden the firm's infrastructure services capability in the region. Moving forward, Hard and Forester will do business as Cardno Hard & Forester. In September Cardno merged with 20-person water and wastewater design firm Better Technical Options (BTO) (Wellington, New Zealand. Link to details

160-person civil and structural engineering firm DCI Engineers (Seattle, WA) acquired 4-person structural engineering firm M.R. Richards Engineering (Eugene, OR). AEA is a major supplier of services to the UK government and features a reputation for providing authoritative and independent technical expertise to underpin policy development, implementation and evaluation, in areas including energy and climate change, air quality, sustainable transport, waste management, resource efficiency and chemical risk.
