Airtec Butterfly Damper features built-in, virtually airtight, permanent gasket

Airtec’s Butterfly Damper is made of a corrosion-proof polymer, offers built-in permanent gasket, helps reduce off-season drafts, mold-generating condensation on diffusers

Airtec Products Corp., Fall River, Mass., a leading manufacturer and importer of HVAC/R products, offers the Airtec Butterfly Damper, reportedly the HVAC industry’s only damper with a built-in, virtually airtight permanent gasket for residential and commercial ventilation systems. The nearly 100-percent efficient performance of the Airtec Butterfly Damper also helps prevent off-season condensation.Airtec Butterfly Damper

Available in Airtec’s MV and GRD Series diffusers, the durable polymer damper features a rubber gasket that when purportedly shut off, allows virtually no air passage, according to airflow tests. Made-in-the-USA at Airtec’s new multi-million dollar plant addition, the Airtec Butterfly Damper allegedly answers contractor requests for a corrosion-proof, efficient alternative to inefficient metal butterfly, opposed blade and parallel blade damper methods.

Besides efficiency, the limited air movement from a tight, closed damper in idle ducts also prevents condensation that can drip through duct gaps and diffusers or nourish harboring ductwork bacteria such as mold and mildew.

The patented Airtec Butterfly Damper comes with an easy-to-adjust worm-gear mechanism. An accessible handle allows hand adjustments or it can be removed in public areas to provide authorized access only with a flat blade screwdriver.

Other damper features are:

  • Outperforms other industry dampers, but carries a similar cost due to a proprietary over-molding process.
  • Offers a one-year warranty.
  • Prevents off-season drafts.
  • Available in two sizes for the six and eight-inch MV Series of ceiling diffuser; and eight-inch in GRD Series diffusers.
