Bell & Gossett’s high efficiency Electronically Commutated Permanent Magnet (ECM) electric motors are designed to enhance performance of hydronics HVAC systems and reduce energy use. When high-efficiency motors designed for variable speed applications are combined with technologically advanced centrifugal pumps and VFDs, commercial building owners can achieve significant operational efficiencies of their hydronic HVAC systems, saving thousands of dollars per year in energy costs.

ECM motors are inherently more efficient than AC induction motors, reducing wasted energy by more than 40 percent. The efficiency advantage expands under partial load, such as in a commercial building where load variations are typical.

With an expanded range of high efficiency ECM motor options, 1.5 to 20 horsepower, system designers can select the smallest motor possible for their project in order to maximize pump and motor efficiency, providing reliable performance while reducing operating cost.

Bell & Gossett ECM motors have greater power density and cooler operation, increasing reliability and extending operating life. The motor design enables wide speed, torque and voltage range designed for ultimate optimization for specific applications to realize efficiencies of up to 95 percent.

By applying a variable speed drive to meet the hydraulic requirements of the system, paired with Bell & Gossett’s highly efficient and Department of Energy-compliant pumps, system designers can extract the maximum efficiency out of the pump-motor-drive combination.
