NFPA establishes $6 million research endowment
Through this multi-million-dollar program, the NFPA seeks to foster research into improvements in fire and life safety.
With the establishment of a $6 million endowment for the Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF), the National Fire Protection Assn. (NFPA) is looking to enhance current fire protection and life safety technology through extensive research. The FPRF, an affiliate of NFPA, is an independent nonprofit that handles research on a broad range of fire- and life-safety issues in conjunction with scientists across the globe.
“The work directed by the FPRF over a span of 25 years has resulted in significant improvements in fire and life safety across the globe,” said NFPA president James M. Shannon. “Through this endowment, we ensure it will continue to provide important research well into the future.”
Formed in 1982, the FPRF’s ultimate stated goal is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards. Research findings also are used by NFPA codes and standards technical committees as they develop new documents and update existing versions.
