2008 NYC construction codes start July 1

New York City Dept. of Buildings will mandate 2008 codes for all new construction.

After a year of having the choice between 2008 NYC Construction Codes and the 1968 Building Code, new construction in New York City must abide by the new codes starting July 1 .

In the first major modernization of the city’s building codes in nearly 40 years, the 2008 NYC Construction Codes are based on the International Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fuel Gas Codes as well as the International Codes .

"The new codes will help to ensure the highest level of safety for New Yorkers, bring uniformity to the city’s construction projects and make New York City’s buildings more energy efficient," said International Code Council CEO Richard P. Weiland.
