RSMeans , Kingston, Mass., a business unit of Reed Construction Data, recently announced the availability of the second edition of its reference publication “Green Building: Project Planning & Cost Estimating.” The book includes a major expansion of green building cost data, now in electronic format on a CostWorks CD.
The publisher claims that this new edition has been updated to address the latest green building advancements, including design concepts, technologies, standards and rating systems, and costs. The CostWorks CD offers more than 300 new assemblies and 5,000 unit price line items, along with estimating tools such as Excel export, a keyword index, virtual notes and reference tables. It also localizes costs for more than 900 areas throughout the United States and Canada.
“Finally, a thorough book on the process of building a green building,” says William Browning, a partner with Terrapin Bright Green LLC, senior fellow of the Rocky Mountain Institute and recipient of the 2004 U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership Award.
The book was written by a team of green design and construction experts, including Mark Kalin, author of the original GreenSpec; Alexis Karolides, principal and team leader for the Rocky Mountain Institute; Seiglinde K. Fuller, leader of the NIST/DOE collaborative on economic analysis for energy and water conservation; Andy Walker, senior engineer with NREL; and Joseph Macaluso, certified cost consultant.
“This unique resource provides a complete package for design and construction professionals, as well as owners and facilities personnel,” says RSMeans Senior Vice President and General Manager John Ware.
