What are building automation and control systems?

Building automation includes automated controls for engineered building systems, such as HVAC, lighting, access control and other systems. It may be controlled through a building automation system (BAS) or building management system (BMS). Building automation and controls have several goals, including occupant comfort, efficient operation, reduction of operating costs and remote access control.
