How to design an electrical room with a reduced footprint

Electrical room components can be reduced to allow for flexibility and value

Electrical engineers are often challenged to design electrical rooms that not only meets codes and standards, but that is also designed to fit in increasingly compact spaces. In such projects, Electrical Engineers are tasked with coming up with designs that utilize small-sized components without compromising performance, reliability, and the ever increasing need to be efficient and sustainable.

Designing for reduced footprint of electrical equipment can also play a major role in cost reduction (both capex and opex) as well as infrastructure flexibility. The application of new technologies, intelligent components, and design architectures greatly reduces footprint while also providing enhanced value to the end user.

This presentation will discuss various methods of footprint reduction for both LV and MV equipment including strategies beyond using smaller equipment.

*This educational session will provide 1.0 Professional Development Hours (PDH) for mySchneider portal members. Continuing Educational Units (CEU) will be provided after successful completion of a test for this course. If you are not a mySchneider portal member, registration is required to receive your completion certificate. Please register at https://www.se.com/us/e2e. In addition, webinar and portal registrations must use the same email for attendance tracking.

Learning objectives:

  • Know the basic codes and standards that must be met when designing electrical distribution rooms.
  • Understand how equipment orientation can affect footprint.
  • Recognize how to leverage various outdoor configurations to reduce the electrical room’s footprint.
  • Learn how alternative equipment components can be used to reduce the footprint of electrical systems.
