USGBC Raises LEED Performance Requirements

Performance increase is part of the organization┬┤s Climate Change Agenda

Members of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) have passed a vote to boost LEED performance requirements. All LEED certified projects are now required to earn at least two Optimize Energy Performance points.

Buildings generate nearly 40% of CO2 emissions,

"Improving energy performance will immediately increase the LEED Green Building Rating System's impact in reducing building energy related greenhouse gas emissions," explains Tom Hicks, vice president, LEED, USGBC.

The USGBC is currently creating a prescriptive compliance path to help with the certification process.
