University of Florida Launches a Survey on the Effects of Building Information Modeling

The University of Florida's M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction, in conjunction with the Facility Information Council (FIC) of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), launched a survey today welcoming all members of the building industry to voice their opinions regarding the effect of building information modeling (BIM) on construction.

The survey can be completed quickly (it has only 16 questions). The questions have been structured in such a way that the resulting data should reveal tangible and significant trends about where BIM has the most effect in construction. This survey will document practitioners’ perceptions of the impact of BIM on the construction phase of the facility lifecycle using six metrics or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) commonly-used in the construction industry. After documenting a large number of practitioners’ opinions, further research can more readily focus on collecting specific, quantitative data to confirm or contradict these perceptions.
