Study claims LED as efficient as fluorescents

A new lighting study says that there is essentially no difference between LED and fluorescent lights.

Efficient lighting has become a major issue due to new legislation and standards , but questions still remain as to how much energy and money is actually saved by switching to LED. A new study by the Siemens Corporate Technology Centre for Eco Innovations , reported by the New York Times , says that the new innovations in lighting do benefit the user greatly.

The study compared the energy used by one 25,000-hour LED lamp to 25 1,000-hour incandescents and 2.5 10,000-hour compact fluorescents.
According to a summary, LED lamps are essentially as energy efficient as compact fluorescents in the amount of energy needed to create, recycle, and illuminate the lamp. It is expected those numbers will improve as LEDs become more energy efficient.
The company issued no in-depth information to support its claims. It said that confirming data will be released this fall, after review by three independent analysts.
