Siemens Canada to supply wind turbines

Siemens Canada Ltd., Burlington, Ontario, has landed the largest wind turbine project in Canada. Siemens will supply 86 wind turbines to the Wolfe Island Wind Project, near Kingston, Ontario. The project is planned for completion in fall 2008.

Siemens Canada Ltd., Burlington, Ontario, has landed the largest wind turbine project in Canada. Siemens will supply 86 wind turbines to the Wolfe Island Wind Project, near Kingston, Ontario. The project is planned for completion in fall 2008.


The wind plant will have an installed capacity of nearly 200 MW; the turbines have the potential to meet the electricity demands of nearly 75,000 households per year. Siemens will supply 86 SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines with a capacity of 2.3 MW each. The contract includes two years of service and maintenance support.

The developer, owner, and operator of the project is Canadian Hydro Developers Inc., Calgary, Alberta, a subsidiary of Canadian Renewable Energy Corp. Siemens hopes that Canada’s wind power market continues its unprecedented growth that it showed in 2006, when it grew by 113%. Out of the 1,535 MW units already installed in Canada, 776 MW units were added in 2006.
