From the ASTC (Association of Science and Technology Centers) Sourcebook of Science Center Statistics 2002:

  • Percentage of U.S. adults in 2001 who reported visiting a science or technology museum at least once during the previous year: 66%

  • Number of schoolchildren worldwide who participated in field trips to science museums or museum outreach programs in 2001: 47 million

  • Number of new science/technology centers in 2001 and 2002: 3 (This is down from 16 new openings in 1999 and 2000.)
