Falcon Electric, Inc. has announced a new line of SVR-PL Series ultra-wide temperature ac power line regulators. The new SVR-PL Series, available in five power models, has been designed to operate in extreme temperature environments. Designed to operate from −22°F to +149°F, the SVR-PL rackmount and tower configured ac line regulators are ideal for use in variable high and low temperature applications where maintaining a constant temperature is required.

The success of Falcon’s SVR Pro Series reportedly led to the design of the new SVR-PL in order to meet more demanding temperature extremes. The new design includes optimized cooling and a high-temperature LED display made from material that is said to be more tolerant of lower and higher temperatures. In addition, internal components have been enhanced to handle more extreme temperature conditions.

“We’re pleased to introduce our new SVR-PL ac line regulator as it gives our military and industrial customers precise voltage regulation and the ability to operate in very extreme environments such as Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as in harsh industrial settings such as petroleum and process control,” said Falcon’s Vice President of Manufacturing, Paul Newman.

The solid-state SVR-PL 1 kVA, 1.5 kVA, 2 kVA, 2.5 kVA and 3 kVA models provide clean, regulated, sinewave output power even when operating from an unregulated incoming ac power source, such as from an on-site generator, according to Falcon. This gives users the highest level of protection against a wide spectrum of power problems, in contrast to the typical power conditioner, which relies on a tap-switching transformer to crudely regulate the output voltage.

The SVR-PL can be configured as a frequency converter for worldwide power applications. Accepting a 50/60 Hz input and providing a fixed 60 Hz or 50 Hz output, the SVR-PL supplies a tightly regulated output of ±2% and extended brownout protection.

In addition, optional batteries may be installed inside the SVR-PL that were specifically selected due to their ultra-wide operational temperature range of -40 ºF to 176 ºF. The batteries have a 10-year service life rating when operated in a normal ambient temperature environment of 72 ºF.

The SVR-PL is equipped with an NFPA-70, NEC 645-11 compliant Remote Emergency Power Off (REPO) interface assuring easy integration. Remote output receptacle control is an option to REPO, allowing the load segment outlets to be remotely controlled using a wire connected, remote switch.
