Philip J. DiNenno Receives SPFE 2005 Arthur B. Guise Medal

Phillip J. DiNenno was awarded the Society of Fire Protection Engineers’ (SFPE) most prestigious award, the Arthur B. Guise Medal. SFPE presented this award at its annual awards and honors banquet.

The award recognizes eminent achievement in the advancement of the science and technology of fire protection engineering and is named in memory of the achievements of Arthur Guise, who singularly developed dry chemicals for use as fire extinguishing agents.

DiNenno was honored for his contributions to the advancement of new fire suppression system technologies and his 20 years of stewardship as editor-in-chief of the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering. In the 1980s he conceived the handbook as a means to define the basis of fire protection engineering practice.

“DiNenno’s leadership in the development of this handbook was instrumental in defining the science and technology that is used to make the world safe from fire,” said Executive Director David Evans. “After three editions and thousands of copies sold, the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering is recognized as the publication that has come to define the profession.”
