Numerous 'green building' periodicals (popular magazines, newsletters, and peer-reviewed journals) can be found online. In general these online versions of the hard-copy version include searchable archives of past issues and often free downloads of selected articles. Some of the most popular include the following.

  • Building & Environment
    This peer-reviewed journal publishes original papers and review articles on building research and its applications, and on the social, cultural and technological contexts of building research and architectural science. Topics related to 'green building' include the environmental behavior of buildings, components and materials, climatic design and performance, human responses to the physical environment, environmental design methods and techniques, case studies of the application of building research in design, planning and policy making, environmental aspects of building maintenance, re-use and conservation, and the environmental performance of traditional or vernacular buildings and settlements.


  • Building Research & Information
    This bimonthly, international, refereed journal serves those in the design, construction and property sectors. Detailed topics include design strategies; usability and adaptability; feedback for the design team, client and contractors; material, component and systems performance; alternative and new technologies; organizational, management and resource issues; human factors; environmental and health issues; cost and life cycle issues; buildability; building procurement and selection criteria; sustainability criteria, measurement and practices; risk management; construction law, regulation and governance; management and validation of facilities in use; implementing, managing and practicing innovation; visualization and information technologies; identifying user and/or market needs. A recent special issue (Vol. 27 No. 4, 1998) provided a critical review of Green Building Challenge '98-a two-year process of international co-operation of 14 countries in developing and testing a building environmental assessment method. It culminated in a major conference in Vancouver, Canada involving 600 delegates from over 30 countries. The detailed presentation of the environmental assessments of 34 case-study buildings from the participating countries in the Challenge provided a benchmark of international progress in both designing environmentally progressive buildings and in making detailed assessments of their performance.


  • Environmental Building News
    This trade newsletter covers aspects of environmentally sound building design & construction including recycled building products, energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, indoor air quality, systems of waste disposal and re-use, and more. The magazine is sent to 18,000 architects, interior designers, building contractors, spec writers, engineers, and others in the design and construction fields that are buying and specifying environmentally sound building materials.


  • EcoIQ Magazine
    This quarterly online journal focuses on efforts around the world to design and build sustainable structures and infrastructure. Articles from current and past issues dealing with Green Design & Building and related issues are available here.   • GreenClips
    This online 'clipping service' is published by architectural researcher and environmental consultant Chris Hammer of Sustainable Design Resources in San Francisco. Ms. Hammer works with planners, developers, building owners, designers, builders, and facility managers in sustainable planning, development, building design, construction, and operation. GreenClips is published biweekly via email.


  • RSCI Journal of Environmental Design
    This journal is published quarterly by Eurasia Academic Publishers. It features full-text articles and case studies, books and reviews, reports and theses, serial publications, bibliographies and catalogs, indexes, databases, scholarly forums and Web resources, including articles pertaining to 'green building.'
