Steven J. DiFlora, P.E. has become a Partner at Kallen & Lemelson Consulting Engineers, LLP., which is headquartered in New York City, with a branch office in Morristown, N.J.

CH2M Hill , the multifaceted engineering firm based in Portland, Ore., recently hired Nathan Good to develop its capabilities in large-scale sustainable development, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and green building. Good, a registered architect, brings 20 years of experience as a champion for the design of high performance buildings, and formerly worked for Portland General Electric, where he was the brain behind the idea for creating the subsidiary for-profit consulting firm Green Building Services.

Ross & Baruzzini , an engineering, architectural design and consulting firm, has hired William H. Overturf, III, P.E. and Michael E. Shea, AIA, to serve as co-Chief Operating Officers for their Missouri Division.

During a March meeting, the National Fire Protection Assocation's Board of Directors unanimously elected James M. Shannon president and chief executive officer of NFPA, effective June 1, 2002. Shannon will succeed George D. Miller, who will retire after ten years. The NFPA has also promoted Robert Solomon, P.E., to assistant vice president, building and life safety codes. Solomon has served as NFPA's chief building fire protection engineer since 1995.

Carter & Burgess Consultants, Inc. has added William C. Ellis, P.E. , as Mechanical Group Manager for the firm's Detroit office. Prior to joining Carter & Burgess, Mr. Ellis gained extensive experience in program management, project direction and manufacturing engineering at Arcadis Giffels

SmithGroup , the architecture, engineering and planning firm based in Detroit, has promoted Bart Stasa, P.E., Esq. , and Derek J. White to vice president. Stasa has become Vice President, General Counsel, while White has been promoted to Vice President, Director of Information Technologies.

Syska Hennessy Group has named Philip Trinh, P.E., a senior vice president. Trinh serves as a managing director for the firm's San Diego office.

HarleyEllis Corporation , Detroit, has elected William Kennedy Stamps to its Board of Directors.

Scott Goodwill, P.E. has joined EYP Mission Critical Facilities Inc. , New York City, as principal. Prior to joining EYP MCF, Goodwill served as managing principal for Glumac International, Inc., Seattle.

A new leadership team has been introduced for The Durrant Group , Phoenix. Gordon Mills, FAIA, will serve as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, and joining Mills on the management team will be Charles Marsden, P.E. as President and Chief Operating Officer; as well as Joseph Trannel as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President, Director of Finance. These organizational changes were announced in connection with the departure of R. Nicholas Loope, FAIA, who had been President and CEO since 1998.


In February the company chairman of Syska & Hennessy, John Hennessy III , announced that the company has changed its name to Syska Hennessy Group . The new company identity, which includes a new look and logo, is meant to indicate the expanding amount of consulting services offered by the firm, which has yearly revenues of more than $100 million. In another move, Syska Hennessy Group has expanded again, combining with the lighting design, electrical engineering and healthcare experts from San Diego's Van Buuren Kimper Engineering and Ericson Lighting Design.

Lilker Associates Consulting Engineers P.C. , a New York City-based mechanical and electrical engineering firm, has recently established Technology Solutions Group (TSG), a wholly-owned division specializing in information technology cabling infrastructure, audio/visual systems and security systems.

Vanderweil Engineers , Boston, one of the largest mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and telecommunications engineering firms in the industry, has successfully completed the design for upgrading the Boston Public Schools telecommunications and data infrastructure, making it the first major urban school district to have all its schools connected to the Internet.


Brinjac Engineering, Inc. , has garnered The Boston Society of Architects' 2001 Award for Design Excellence for their lighting design work on the Milton Hershey High School Town Center.

Martin (Mickey) Reiss, P.E. , has been named the 2002 recipient of the Paul C. Lamb Award , which honors members of the NFPA whose service to the association 'characterizes the height of voluntary spirit and deed.' The award will be presented to Reiss during the general session of NFPA's 2002 World Safety Conference and Exposition.
