The 2005 edition of the National Electrical Code is scheduled for publication Sept. 15. Published by the National Fire Protection Association, this edition will be the fiftieth in the document's history.

According to the NFPA, the 2005 edition features a number of revisions to the 2002 version, including:

  • Expanded AFCI protection in wiring systems;

  • New GFCI protection rules;

  • New articles for control panels and speed-drive systems;

  • Identification of ungrounded branch circuit and feeder conductors;

  • New zone hazardous-area classification system for combustible dusts and ignitable fibers and flyings.
