New LonMark Guidelines Ease Interoperability

LonMark International, in an attempt to simplify the installation of networks of open, interoperable devices, last week announced the release of Version 3.4 of the LonMark Interoperability Guidelines, which includes support for self-installed devices and networks. To date, nearly 700 products have been tested and certified as compliant

The new version, in recognizing the need to self-install small, simple networks without installation tools, includes a newly developed interoperable self-installation tool protocol. Devices using this protocol—which is optional—can install themselves either automatically or via a simple push-button. The new guidelines also include additional compliance requirements for device-response timing, making each certified device’s performance consistent for a larger range of network management tools. And, the new guidelines’ layout has been modified to keep them in tune with other guidelines submitted to various standards organizations.
