Nick Moriarty, a fire protection engineer for JBA Consulting Engineers, was named as the 2011 Industry Person of the Year by the Southern Nevada International Code Council.

February 3, 2012

The Southern Nevada International Code Council (ICC) honored Nick Moriarty, fire protection manager at JBA Consulting Engineers, as the 2011 Industry Person of the Year. ICC works to increase the public awareness of safety in the built environment. Its board of directors granted the award to Moriarty for his outstanding contributions to the cause and chapter on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, during the 2012 Installation Banquet.

In 2011, Moriarty organized and facilitated the chapter’s first high school internship and shadowing program. The curriculum offered students the chance to explore careers in engineering, architecture and building. Twelve local students learned the ins and outs of the construction, building and engineering industries and shadowed professionals from various Southern Nevada construction companies.

Moriarty serves as a mentor and coordinator for JBA’s practice in fire protection engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical/plumbing engineering and technical services. He has worked on high-profile projects such as Harrah’s Las Vegas, Fashion Show Mall, and Las Vegas City Hall. He also oversees the risk and assessment reports for the New Year’s Eve fireworks display on the Las Vegas Strip.

Moriarty became a member of Southern Nevada ICC in 2009 and in 2011 served on both the membership services and public outreach committees. In December 2011, the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers elected Moriarty as its president.
