NECA revised standard on switchboards published

The National Electrical Contractors Assn., Bethesda, Md., has published its revised "NECA 400-2007, Standard for Installing and Maintaining Switchboards," an ANSI-approved standard that describes the installation and maintenance procedures for deadfront distribution switchboards rated 600 volts or less.

The National Electrical Contractors Assn., Bethesda, Md., has published its revised "NECA 400-2007, Standard for Installing and Maintaining Switchboards." The ANSI-approved standard describes the installation and maintenance procedures for deadfront distribution switchboards rated 600 volts or less. It includes detailed information about installation, inspection and energizing the equipment, as well as maintenance and recommendations for management of adverse circumstances. Installation and maintenance guidance is complemented by illustrations and useful industry references.

The photos and illustrations are the best thing about this book,” observed Brooke Stauffer, NECA’s executive director of standards and safety. “They really bring the Code rules and maintenance best practices alive in a way that plain text just can’t do.”

NECA 400-2007 is the second edition of a standard originally published in 1998. It has been updated to reflect current National Electrical Code rules for switchboards, and to reference NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. For more information, go to www.neca-neis.org .
