Middle East and India AC Markets on the Rise

The Middle Eastern and Indian markets for air-conditioning units reached $1.4 billion in 2000, and is expected to grow to $2.1 billion by 2004, according to the United Kingdom-based market research firm, BSRIA. Central plant air-conditioning equipment, which posted $732 million in sales in 2000, is also predicted to increase, reaching $1 billion by 2004.

The Middle Eastern and Indian markets for air-conditioning units reached $1.4 billion in 2000, and is expected to grow to $2.1 billion by 2004, according to the United Kingdom-based market research firm, BSRIA. Central plant air-conditioning equipment, which posted $732 million in sales in 2000, is also predicted to increase, reaching $1 billion by 2004.

Although Saudi Arabia accounts for the largest portion of room and packaged air-conditioning equipment sales to the region at 40 percent, India is the fastest growing market, with a 21-percent increase projected annually through 2004. Currently, the United Arab Emirates accounts for 14 percent of the market with Egypt, Kuwait and Iran together making up 12 percent of sales.

Regarding central plant air-conditioning market activity, the United Arab Emirates led the pack in 2000, followed by Saudi Arabia. Air-handling units registered $130 million in total region sales in 2000, and 220,000 fan coil units were sold last year.
