Keeping the Staff Happy: Employee Satisfaction and Retention Survey

03/15/2006

The “2005/2006 Employee Satisfaction and Retention Survey” from salary.com, based in Needham, Mass., has some surprising findings about what’s important to employees—and something to say about the discrepancies between what employees want and what management thinks they want.

For example, HR professionals listed the following as major factors of employee happiness: benefits, harmony with co-workers and fair compensation—in that order. However, employees cited inadequate compensation, no opportunities for advancement and no recognition for their work as the top three reasons (in order) for leaving.

Firm management would do well to take a look at this survey. A majority of employees surveyed (65%) expect to be looking for a job in the next three months.
