• International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164 in New Jersey, has set up training classes for photovoltaic technology. Recognizing the rapidly growing importance of this technology, Local 164 provides all of its members with a full continuum of professional education at two facilities in Paramus and Toms River, N.J.

• S&C Electric, Chicago, has been awarded a contract to construct a wind-turbine collector system and interconnect substation—including all underground and overhead distribution—on a turnkey basis for the Horseshoe Bend Wind Park in Montana. The owner, United Materials of Great Falls, Mt., operates a mining facility that is currently powered by diesel generation. The new wind park will replace the diesel generation and not only provide 4 MW of clean power to the mining facility, but also 5 MW of power to the 100-kV transmission grid of Northwestern Energy.

• GE Energy, Atlanta, is supplying 14 of its 1.5-MW wind turbines for the first two utility-scale wind projects to be built in Shanghai, China. With a total combined capacity of 21 MW, the Chongming wind facility is located on the eastern end of Chongming Island, and the Nanhui wind facility is situated in the southeastern region of the city in the Nanhui district. Other recent GE wind projects include facilities in Spain and southern Italy.

• Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. , Harrisburg, Pa., reports that it has been working on acity a day—enough to power over 1,700 homes.
