GE Energy Financial Services will finance five commercial and public solar power installations in California. As a part of the ecomagination project, the GE unit will team with SunPower Corp., San Jose, Calif., to develop solar power systems that include a 2.3 MW system at the Toyota Parts Center, Ontario, Calif. The roof system will be the largest in the United States and the five projects will total around eight MW.

GE will finance and own the systems, but SunPower will design, build, and operate the systems. Construction is scheduled to begin in February and finish by the end of the year. The projects included in the initiative are a single megawatt rooftop system at the HP research and development facility in San Diego. The non-penetrating system increases energy capture by tilting at a 10-degree angle.


A 1 MW solar tracking system on the top of a canopy structure in the parking lot of Agilent Technologies, Santa Rosa, is part of GE’s public solar power projects. . In addition, a Lakeport correctional facility will receive 85% of its electricity from ground-mounted solar systems, which will generate 2.4 MW and serve two wastewater treatment plans.

Lastly, the Rancho California Water District, Murrieta, will receive a 1 MW ground-mounted system that covers 10 acres and produces 30% more energy that traditional systems.
