Florida engineer named ASHRAE/USGBC fellow

Michael Erbesfield will serve a one-year fellowship on Capitol Hill, advising a U.S. Senator on issues relevant to ASHRAE and USGBC.


Michael Erbesfeld—a mechanical engineer with the Deerfield Beach, Fla., office of Orlando-based TLC Engineering for Architecture —has been named as a Washington Congressional Fellow hosted by ASHRAE and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). During the one-year fellowship, he will work on Capitol Hill in a technical advisory role, assigned to the office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). Erbesfeld recently completed the annual fellows orientation sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

“What’s so exciting about this fellowship is that it offers an opportunity to help policymakers shape the future of our built environment by making responsible design the standard as opposed to the exception,” said Erbesfeld.

Doug Read, ASHRAE program director of government affairs, notes that Erbesfeld’s assignment stands to benefit both ASHRAE and USGBC, given the Senator’s service on the Appropriations Committee, including chairing the Interior, Environment, and related agencies subcommittees.
