Fast-Paced Growth for U.S. Telecom

Showing impressive growth, U.S. factory telecommunication equipment sales jumped more than 20 percent from 1999 to 2000, finishing at $100.3 billion in 2000, according to a recent market report released by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Arlington, Va.

Showing impressive growth, U.S. factory telecommunication equipment sales jumped more than 20 percent from 1999 to 2000, finishing at $100.3 billion in 2000, according to a recent market report released by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Arlington, Va.

U.S telecommunications exports totaled $27.9 billion last year—a 23-percent increase from 1999.

Even though telephone apparatus and parts accounts for the largest market segment at $8.6 billion, the fastest-growing market segment for exports was fiber-optic cable.

"An increase of 75 percent in fiber-optic cable exports reflects the continued demand for high-speed broadband in the communications market," says TIA President Matthew J. Flanigan.
