DOE and AIA Team Up to Promote Energy-Efficient Buildings

Striving to promote and increase the number of energy-efficient, high performance buildings, the U.S. Dept. of Energy recently signed an agreement to more formally partner with the American Institute of Architects in this effort.

Striving to promote and increase the number of energy-efficient, high performance buildings, the U.S. Dept. of Energy recently signed an agreement to more formally partner with the American Institute of Architects in this effort.

“This agreement reaffirms the partnership between the Department of Energy and the American Institute of Architects that focuses on architectural design and education as tools to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy,” states David Garmen, DOE’s assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy.

As outlined in their memorandum of understanding, the two organizations plan to continue:

  • Creating buildings conducive to resource efficiency.

  • Improving IAQ and occupant productivity.

  • Advocating the use of renewable, clean energy sources.

  • Reducing the environmental impact of the built environment.

  • Promoting global economic opportunities through internationally recognized high performance design and energy-efficient structures.
