The Pentagon Reservation is a challenge in its sheer size, the number of divisions that are required to be supported, the quantity of concurrent projects that need to be executed, and the quantity and complexity of systems and equipment to be commissioned. Projects range from central utility plant and associated distribution, building envelope/pressurization, computer and technology data centers, secure office and conference centers, laboratories, emergency operations centers, switch house/substations, athletic/fitness, delivery facilities, food services/retail facilities, and vehicle access control and perimeter security. All of these factors impact the ability to continuously improve processes, optimize system performance, and increase energy efficiency.

Never satisfied with status quo, Chinook Systems Inc. has always strived to proactively push the Pentagon's commissioning program forward. Chinook standardized the overall commissioning process managed in the enterprise level commissioning software application, Quicx and provided real-time, transparent delivery of their services at all phases of each project. Chinook provided to the Pentagon a complete set of master documents for each type of equipment and system installed on the reservation. This approach has significantly saved time on the development of documentation and ensured that there was consistent delivery from one project to the next. Chinook automated the process of transitioning commissioning data to the computerized maintenance management system.

Through the ongoing commissioning process, Chinook developed the Ongoing Cx Plan and coordinated their work with other government contractors. Chinook investigated troubled areas, performed condition assessments and energy audits, resolved operational problems, improved comfort, and optimized energy use. In addition, Chinook led an outside air reduction project to reduce OA to current codes and standards, optimize sequence of operations, and reduce building pressurization issues. Chinook was an active participant in many on-going energy related projects, including sub-metering and steam trap monitoring, and developed rule sets for fault detection analytics through the Iconics controls system for all major equipment types.
