A/E Fees Stay Ahead of Inflation

Hourly A/E billing rates increased an average of 5.3% last year, and two-thirds of A/E firms were able to raise fees at percentages higher than the rate of inflation, according to PSMJ Resource's annual A/E Fees and Pricing Survey.

Hourly A/E billing rates increased an average of 5.3% last year, and two-thirds of A/E firms were able to raise fees at percentages higher than the rate of inflation, according to PSMJ Resource's annual A/E Fees and Pricing Survey .

Filled with benchmark information on A/E firm billing rates and contract types, the report, prepared by the Newton, Mass.-based market research group, also covers marketing and bid proposals.

For example, the average A/E firm focuses 22% of its marketing efforts on preparing proposals and 20% on maintaining existing clients. The survey also reports that the percentage of accepted proposals decreased from 40% in 1999 to 30% in 2000.
