Melody Ablola, CMILT; 35

Ablola is an associate logistics consultant in the San Francisco office of Arup. She joined the firm’s New York City office in 2006 after working for a global pharmaceutical company in San Diego for 2 years. While in Arup’s New York office, she worked on large-capital distribution centers, such as a first-of-its-kind automation design for the Zappos.com distribution center, which was carried over when the company was purchased by Amazon. In 2008, she transferred to Arup’s London headquarters to diversify her project work and bring an organizational mind to the fervor of the 2012 Olympics Athletes Village. Ablola moved to Arup’s San Francisco office after 8 years in London. Her move to California allowed her to grow her leadership skills, transfer knowledge gained while in London, and start building a logistics team on the West Coast. Her focus has shifted to bringing out the best in junior staff members. Currently, Ablola leads a subteam of eight operational logistics consultants and aviation-planning specialists within Arup’s integrated planning team. Ablola participates in Out for Undergrad at Stanford University, recruiting talented LGBTQ engineering graduates and providing information on engineering careers both in general and at Arup specifically. Also, as part of Arup’s integrated planning team, Ablola volunteered at Crossing the Jordan’s donation center to support families affected by the 2017 Santa Rosa fires. A budding mycophagist, Ablola embarks on mushroom forays in Point Reyes National Seashore and Jackson State Forest and recently participated in the Mendocino County Mushroom, Wine, and Beer Festival. Locally, she hosts a monthly DJ night at her neighborhood brewery where locals and friends are encouraged to bring their own vinyl records. Her international adventures and city resettling point to a desire to build a strong interconnected community that finds common ground in music.
