Kimberly Cowman, PE, LEED AP; 37Cowman is a senior associate and senior mechanical project engineer with Leo A Daly, an architecture, engineering, planning, interior design, and program management firm headquartered in Omaha, Neb. She began her career at the firm in 2004 as a mechanical engineer in training, having worked for them as an intern while completing her engineering degree. Specializing in mechanical engineering analysis and design, she focused her skills on health care facilities. Cowman’s role in the firm grew as she became a licensed professional engineer in 2007. Her responsibilities continued to grow into project management, from client initiation through project close-out for projects involving multidisciplinary design teams. In 2014, Cowman was promoted to mechanical discipline lead for the health care team located in the Omaha office and was appointed senior associate in the firm. She continues to be responsible for the leadership and management of the mechanical engineering group, which consists of professional engineers, engineers in training, and technical specialists. The team is tasked with project delivery, technical processes, quality control, and resource allocation. Cowman stays very involved in ASHRAE. In the local chapter, she has served as the student activities chair, a board member, treasurer, secretary, president-elect, and as president. She also is a volunteer member of the Omaha Property Maintenance Appeals Board, and she regularly volunteers to guest lecture at the University of Nebraska Architectural Engineering program. When she’s not spending time with her husband and 4-year-old and 7-month-old sons, she enjoys golf, bowling, and participating in trivia events. She has been known to say that if she ever decides to leave engineering, it would be to replace Alex Trebek as the host of Jeopardy.
