Andrew Flanagan, PE, LEED AP, GPD; 35Flanagan is an associate and senior plumbing engineer at Interface Engineering in Portland, Ore. Having worked for consulting firms, a design-build operation, a manufacturing company, and in property management, he has broad range of experiences that provides him a unique skill set to serve clients. Each position has built upon the skills learned in the prior position. Starting as a building supervisor with Flanagan Management (2004-2005), he learned about rental operations, maintenance, and client relations. At Monaco Coach (2006-2007), he learned manufacturing documentation, engineering process control, and the politics of a large company. While at Mazzetti (2007-2012), Flanagan was introduced to the consulting engineering (mechanical) industry in Portland and beyond, where he collaborated with nationwide offices. Alliant Systems (2013-2016) provided him with the opportunity to learn the contracting side of the market with a design-build focus, participate in building a consulting engineering department with the resources of a contractor, learn construction project management, and work hand-in-hand with ownership on company anatomy. In his current role at Interface Engineering (2016-present), Flanagan guides and mentors a team of designers and engineers to complete successful work. With a passion for teaching, he is often involved in science, technology, engineering, and math outreach to K-8 grades. He is currently working with colleagues from Interface Engineering on STEM outreach to 7th-grade students at Cascade Middle School in Vancouver, Wash. Outside of work, Flanagan’s time is spent with family and friends enjoying all types of outdoor adventures. In 2013, he spent 6 months away from work, with the blessing of his wife and family, to hike the Pacific Crest Trail with a longtime friend.
