Wyatt Wirges, PE, LEED AP BD+C; 27

Mechanical Engineer, WSP, Dallas

BS and MAE Architectural Engineering, University of Nebraska

Wirges is a mechanical engineer for WSP in Dallas and has been involved in design and construction administration for a wide variety of projects, ranging from straightforward shell finish-outs to complex hospital renovations and additions encompassing hundreds of thousands of square feet. His various responsibilities within these projects have included mechanical and plumbing design, site surveys, energy modeling, U.S. Green Building Council LEED documentation, project management, construction administration, and quality control. Post-graduation, Wirges accepted a job at WSP and has been a vital team member on various health care projects for the past 3½ years. His responsibilities over the years have advanced him from mechanical designer to mechanical engineer and now to project coordinator for health care projects of various sizes and complexities. What distinguishes him most is his work ethic and astute problem-solving skills. Wirges credits these attributes to his experience as an apprentice plumber in Nebraska; working with his father, he was held to a higher standard than his counterparts. He also has been a part of the WSP Canstruction team. Canstruction is an annual charity competition event that WSP participates in each year. This event is a competition between local architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and engineering students to build structures entirely out of cans. Wirges loves the outdoors and enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. He also greatly enjoys deep-sea fishing. In fact, he enjoys participating and following athletics of all kinds. He is always seeking an opportunity to compete in some way, from pickup basketball games to sand volleyball. WSP has sponsored a number of teams for employee participation, from WhirlyBall to volleyball.
