Senior Associate, Environmental Systems Design Inc. (ESD), Chicago

BS and MS Mechanical Engineering, Washington University, St. Louis

Jensen began his career at Environmental Systems Design Inc. (ESD) after graduating magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. As a project manager and senior mechanical engineer in the High Performance Buildings Group, he oversees the MEP/FP/T design process and coordinates with architects, other consultants, and end users as ESD's main point of contact. As the lead senior mechanical designer on projects, Jensen provides mechanical system design for a variety of projects across multiple market sectors including commercial new construction, international, large commercial interiors, core and shell retail, high-rise, build-to-suit commercial, and others. His chief duties include mechanical systems design, energy modeling, mechanical calculations and simulations, assessing shop drawings, surveying and field work, and preparation of electronic drawings/files. Although he is strong in technical knowledge, project management, team leadership, and client advocacy, he has become a subject matter expert on stack effect in tall and supertall buildings and has co-authored and presented on this topic. Jensen is a member of the Illinois chapter of ASHRAE and mentors college students through the ASHRAE Student Design Competition. He works closely with a student team from the University of Illinois at Chicago, providing guidance as they develop their competition submissions. Jensen recently became engaged to someone who actually works in the same industry, an interior designer at a small architecture and design firm. He is an avid homebrewer, frequently making 5-gal batches of delicious, fresh homebrewed beer. He loves to bike through Chicago and tries to bike to work at least a few days a week. He also enjoys hiking and camping.
