Director, Corrosion College, Gilmer, Texas
Stephen F. Austin State University, BA Communications

Stephanie Ellis’ background in communications began at a very unlikely point: the Conan O’Brien show in New York City. Ellis spent one year working as an unpaid intern at the late-night show, and shortly after decided to move back to Texas. Ellis made her way to Robroy Industries as executive assistant, moving to coordinator and finally to her current title as director of Corrosion College. The college’s courses were developed to assist consulting and specifying engineers in combating the annual $1 trillion cost of corrosion. The coursework teaches professionals how to prevent product failure and also trains engineers on the importance of proper installation of products to protect investments. Since Ellis became director in 2010, more than 200 consulting and specifying engineers have attended the courses. While Ellis is always looking for ways to enhance the sessions, she also looks for ways to expand her expertise in the field. Ellis is certified by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers as a corrosion generalist and is active in the International Association of Electrical Inspectors. She has also presented a short course on corrosion as a lunch-and-learn to many engineering and design/build firms throughout the country. More recently, Ellis and her staff received the National Association of Electrical Distributors excellence in training award. The award recognizes an associate company each year that has been innovative and active in the area of training and development to improve the electrical distribution channel. Apart from her dedication to Corrosion College, Ellis also volunteers regularly with the Humane Society of Northeast Texas and Partnership for Pets to help homeless animals find their forever homes. Ellis and her husband like to spend their time outdoors with their dog, Cooper.
