While Sarah Rollins was completing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Brigham Young University, she had the opportunity to perform more than 2,000 impulse response measurements in the Latter Day Saints Church Conference Center and Salt Lake Tabernacle. This tremendous body of acoustical work led to numerous presentations at multiple conferences, including meetings for the Acoustical Society of America, American Association of Physics Teachers, and Syn-Aud-Con, where she advised colleagues on the spatial variability of acoustic metrics and preservation of acoustics. Due to those accomplishments, she was hired into her first position at Sparling in Seattle where she completed similar work on three additional performance halls. Her expertise was further appreciated when she taught her previous boss how to work with the CATT Acoustic program over lunch breaks. Over the past 7 years as an acoustician, Rollins has broadened her technical expertise of acoustical consulting and project management in the fields of architectural acoustics (both acoustical separation and interior acoustics) as well as noise and vibration control for HVAC systems. Rollins has completed projects in more than 100 different spaces around the United States, from government facilities to theaters. Recently, she conducted advanced vibration measurements in MRI suites located in state-of-the-art medical facilities. Despite her usual 50- to 60-hour-long workweeks, Rollins squeezes in time for downhill skiing and snowshoeing through Utah’s canyons and also participates in running and cycling. She is active in her church and teaches a group of eight primary students each Sunday.
