Fire Protection Engineer, jba consulting engineers, Las Vegas
Worchester Polytechnic Institute, BS Mechanical Engineering and MS Fire Protection Engineering

Nicholas Moriarty’s passion for fire protection sprung from tragedy. While taking his first graduate-level course on building fire safety, the events of Sept. 11, 2001, took place and changed the course of Moriarty’s focus. He dedicated his senior project toward a study on how the fire affected the structural steel building of World Trade Center 5. Now, Moriarty serves as manager of the fire protection department for jba consulting engineers in Las Vegas. His 9 years of experience in fire protection and life safety have led him to work in technical and complex designs in residential, hotel/casino, correctional, and educational projects. Moriarty has dedicated his career to training and specializing in code consulting, smoke control, fire alarm and fire sprinkler design, hazard analysis, and specifications for passive building systems. In 2010, Moriarty received his professional engineering license in Nevada and is now registered in 13 states across the country with pending applications in two more states. He served as president for the Southern Nevada chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers in 2012. Moriarty also sits on the executive board of the Southern Nevada Chapter of the International Code Council where he was granted the Industry Person of the Year award for 2011. For the past several years, Moriarty has been involved in working with several local community organizations and has participated in raising money for childhood cancer research. Moriarty enjoys an active life with help from his two dogs, a Great Dane and a beagle mix. Moriarty usually takes several trips a year, but when he is home he enjoys rooting for his favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots.
