While practicing architecture, Amarpreet Sethi decided to take a step further in her focus on passive and sustainable design and went back to college for a master’s of science in energy and climate. During her graduate studies, Sethi geared her research on passive design, environmental systems, daylighting, building assessment tools, and building systems analysis. She has published and presented on these topics at a variety of seminars and conferences. Now, Sethi’s goal as senior sustainability analyst at DLR Group is to help owners, facility managers, architects, and engineers fully understand the impact of their decisions and how they can make more efficient choices within the construction process. She is constantly working alongside architectural and engineering teams to develop and execute sustainability plans by using assessment energy modeling tools to give clients an outline of each project’s needs. Her 14-year career as researcher and sustainability analyst spans three countries: India, Canada, and the United States. Sethi also holds a number of titles in the field, including Certified Energy Manager, Approved Energy Simulation Reviewer for CAGBC, High-Performance Building Design Professional, and Building Energy Modeling Professional. More recently, Sethi was selected by the City of Seattle Living Building and Deep Green Technical Advisory Group for her extensive knowledge and experience to impact the future potential of sustainable buildings in Seattle. Sethi collaborates with other industry professionals to combine theories that represent all selections of the community while making sure not to leave any building type behind. Sethi likes to wind down by practicing yoga and going sailing. She spends a good amount of time volunteering and sharing her passion for sailing at the Seattle Center of Wooden Boats.
