Jason Krolicki’s experience includes a wide range of projects: giant observation wheels, mixed-use high-rise structures, university buildings, hospitals, and office buildings. He combines his extensive knowledge in the design and detailing of a variety of materials, such as steel, concrete, and masonry, with his strong theoretical background in the seismic behavior of structures when completing his projects. As chair of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California’s Tall Building Subcommittee, Krolicki researches the seismic behavior and resistance of concrete structural walls. He furthered his education in seismic design by enrolling at the European School for Advanced Studies in Reduction of Seismic Risk (ROSE) in Pavia, Italy, on a full academic scholarship. He went on to apply his knowledge of seismic building design in projects including the world’s tallest observation wheel at 550 ft. Located in Las Vegas, the wheel has a capacity for 1,120 passengers for each 30-minute revolution. Krolicki was also the lead project engineer for four towers totaling 8.22 million sq ft with an eight-story 6.8-million-sq-ft parking lot in Dubai. He uses his building knowledge outside of work as well, volunteering for the Detroit chapter of Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together in San Francisco to assist in bringing low-cost homes to people in need. Most recently in his spare time, Krolicki focuses on taking his 4-year-old son for bike rides through Golden Gate Park and preparing for his second child.
