WSP Flack + Kurtz adds 3 professionals to San Francisco office

WSP Flack + Kurtz added a senior associate, associate, telecom engineer to their expanding San Francisco office

Brian Lake, Jonel Garcia and Blake Forbes have joined the San Francisco office of WSP Flack + Kurtz, an international engineering firm, as Senior Associate, Associate and Telecom Engineer, respectively, announced Susanna See, PE, LEED AP, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the firm’s San Francisco office.

Mr. Lake, Senior Associate, has more than 20 years of experience as an electrical engineer and lighting designer. He has worked on a wide variety of project types, including education, cultural, healthcare, commercial, arts and entertainment, within the U.S. and Europe, for such employers as Ove Arup and Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch.

His current projects with WSP Flack + Kurtz include Aviation Plaza in Chengdu, China, and South Monterey Courthouse in Monterey, CA. Projects to which he contributed previously include Google’s office in Mountain View, CA; GlaxoSmithKline’s headquarters in London, U.K.; UC Davis’s Earth and Physical Science Building in Davis, CA; the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans; the Paul Klee Museum in Bern, Switzerland; and the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, CA, among many others.

Mr. Lake holds an MSc in construction management and marketing from Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, U.K., and a BSc (Hons) in building services engineering from South Bank University, London, U.K.

Associate Jonel Garcia, who came to WSP Flack + Kurtz from the architectural firm HOK, is an electrical engineer with 22 years of lighting, power and distribution design experience. During his 11-year tenure at HOK, he worked on a wide range of projects, including corporate/commercial, office, laboratory, healthcare, justice and institutional facility types. Recent projects he worked on prior to joining WSP Flack + Kurtz include the CalSTRS (California State Teachers’ Retirement System) project in West Sacramento, CA, and East Contra Costa County Courthouse in Pittsburgh, CA.

Mr. Garcia received a BSc in industrial education from the Technological University of the Philippines in Manila, and also completed a three-year program in electrical engineering technology from the Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in Ontario, Canada.

Telecom Engineer Blake Forbes recently joined WSP Flack + Kurtz after serving as a project manager for J&A Engineering in Atlanta. He also is a former lead communications-security-audiovisual consultant for Jordan & Skala Engineers in Dallas. The WSP Flack + Kurtz projects on which he is working include the Shanghai International Financial Center in Shanghai, China, and Deloitte & Touche at 555 Mission Street in San Francisco.

Mr. Forbes holds a BSc in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
