The state of Wisconsin adopted the most recent edition of NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code. The adoption became effective on March 1, 2008. Adopted in 20 states, the code provides requirements necessary to establish a reasonable level of fire safety and property protection from hazards created by fire and explosion.
The primary purposes of the code address the basic fire prevention requirements and reference or extract the fire prevention/protection aspects of several other NFPA codes and standards. Wisconsin officials already participated in training and will partake in future training programs developed by NFPA, which include instruction on code requirements, utilization, and code enforcement.
