Webcast: Improving Electrical Efficiency Through PF Correction
How much do you really know about power factor and PF correction. Did you know that the electrical power a facility receives is made up of two components: real power and reactive power?
In order to answer this questions and much more about power factor, Plant Engineering magazine will be hosting a webcast on Feb. 23, 2006 at 1 pm. CST.
While real power performs useful work within a facility, reactive power does not. In fact, reactive power actually constitutes an energy loss and can consume capacity in transformers, generators, wiring, and transmission lines.
Power factor, a measure of electrical efficiency, compares the amount of real, or useful, power to the total power consumed. If power factor is not 100%, the facility is not operating at its highest efficiency and is probably paying penalty fees to utilities who charge for poor efficiency.
The relationship between power factor and electrical efficiency is covered in this webcast, as well as power factor measurement, correction techniques and PF correction issues in a changing technological landscape.
