USGBC launches ‘green’ school campaign
The U.S. Green Building Council’s Fifty for Fifty initiative seeks to partner with state lawmaker to promote eco-friendly construction of learning facilities.
With the launch of its Fifty for Fifty effort, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) aims for every state legislature in the nation to have its own caucus or working group of lawmakers advancing green schools. Building upon successes of the Congressional Green Schools Caucus, the initiative draws from widespread participation in the Council’s LEED for schools program, which has more than 1,000 green schools registered.
State legislators taking part in the program will have a pool of green-building resources to draw from, including green-building trends, cost-benefit studies, and incentives offered by localities to promote green building. In addition, lawmakers will get to network with other like-minded leaders across the country.
