Mersen has published a technical white paper on Standards and Codes: SCN4, Note 1, “Significant Changes to the NFPA 70E Standard 2012 Edition.” NFPA 70E is the standard for electrical safety in the workplace and explains in detail how to prevent electrical hazards. In this paper, Mersen identifies and explains some of the key changes to NFPA 70E for 2012, including arc-rated versus flame-resistant requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE). The white paper includes details for training requirements for emergency procedures. It also explains arc flash analysis for electrically safe working conditions and arc flash analysis requirements for equipment labeling. In addition, the paper details safety-related design requirements for arc energy reduction.
