Gregs Thomopulos and Bennett Reischauer, both of Stanley Consultants, were recently honored at the annual meeting of the Iowa Engineering Society in Des Moines, Iowa. Stanley Consultants provides program management, planning, engineering, environmental and construction services worldwide.

“All too often the public fails to appreciate just what it is that engineers do to enhance our quality of life, but Gregs Thomopulos has been able to step into the forum of public life and shine a much needed light on the value of the professional engineer,” said Iowa Engineering Society Executive Director David Scott. “Bennett Reischauer has served as a mentor to young engineers working to continuously improve both their technical and leadership skills and in doing so has benefited the profession for decades to come. The Iowa Engineering Society and the engineering profession are fortunate to have Gregs and Bennett as members.”

Thomopulos, CEO and chairman of Muscatine-based Stanley Consultants, received the Voice of the Engineer Award. This award is presented in recognition of individuals who have worked to enhance the image of the engineering profession, and for bringing broader recognition of the accomplishments and contributions of engineers to the safety, health and welfare of the general public.

Thomopulos joined Stanley Consultants in 1965 and became president in 1987. Throughout his career he has promoted the field of engineering through leadership in multiple engineering associations. He is currently serving as president of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers. Referred to as FIDIC, (the acronym stands for the French version of the name) the organization represents globally the consulting engineering industry and promotes the interest of firms providing technology-based intellectual services for the built and natural environment.

Reischauer, a senior vice president with Stanley Consultants, received the Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to recognize outstanding service to the engineering profession. Reischauer joined Stanley Consultants in 1972 and was elected senior vice president in 1996. He is president of Stanley Consultants (Engineers), P.S.C. in Puerto Rico; and serves on the SC Companies Board of Directors and the Stanley-CDM-Libya-LLC Board of Directors.

Throughout his career, Reischauer has been active in a variety of engineering associations. In 2010, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and was named a Fellow of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). He is also active in the Society of American Military Engineers, and National Society of Professional Engineers.
