Software theft ranks high
The Business Software Alliance states that manufacturing, sales, and service industries were the three leading victims of piracy in 2008.
Manufacturing, sales, and service
industries were the three highest victims of software piracy in 2008, according to Business Software Alliance (BSA).
The theft and
illegal use of software is a concern worldwide. Software piracy limits
technology companies’ ability to innovate and create jobs, harms local IT
services firms, strains government tax revenues, and increases the risk of
cyber crime and security problems.
Nearly one of
five software programs installed in the United States in 2008 were
unauthorized copies without legal licenses, according to the BSA. The retail
value of pirated PC software was $9.1 billion in the United States alone, and $53
billion globally.
